Shinji Mikami, the father of Resident Evil, is developing a brand new survival horror title that is set to bring “pure survival horror” back to the forefront of gaming.

The new comes courtesy of the latest issue of Famitsu magazine, which details Mikami’s latest project codenamed “Zwei,” which translates into “2.” The game is being developed by Mikami’s own studio, Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda Softworks, whose parent company ZeniMax Media acquired Tango Gameworks in October 2010.

Mikami will be serving as the game’s executive director, and while no platforms have been announced, he did note that the game will probably appear on HD consoles. ”I’ve found my focus and once again I’m striving for pure survival horror,” he said. “I am being very hands-on to see that the quality is there.”

“Our latest project’s codename is “Zwei” and it is a survival horror game. The above image is a collage of different environments we put together for this announcement and is intended to give a feel for the tone and the direction the production is taking. (However, neither the code name nor the image is intended to tell you exactly what is in the game.)

As a master of the ‘survival horror’ genre, Shinji Mikami is committed to making a game that is the realization of pure survival horror, an experience which he defines as one that pushes the limits of fear and exhilaration. He and his team at Tango are committed to attaining this vision.”

Check out the first concept art for the game below and stay tuned for more information.
